Levels^ Ages Ratio^^^  More Information
Tots Program 6mths-3yrs   Tots Program - The Tots program will be extended to include children between the ages of 2 and 3.  The tot program requires a parent or guardian to enter the water with their child. Please be aware that this program fills up extremely quickly and spots are limited.

Red Cross Swim Pre-School:
Starfish, Duck, Seaturtle, Salamander, Sunfish, Crocodile, Whale
2 yrs 2:1 This seven-level stand-alone program allows swimmers to enter various levels based on age and ability. Kids will enjoy the animal themes and mascots, which have been added to enhance learning and fun. Lesson plans that use the mascot and animal themes will be available to help Instructors run dynamic classes for this age group.

The first two levels focus on water orientation and safety for parents and their children.  Levels 3-7 build swimming skills and age-specific Water Safety. The upper levels are geared to the advanced preschooler who is too young for the next program, but
who has developed swimming skills beyond most preschool programs.

Red Cross Swim Kids 1-10

Please see the programs page for more information about each of these levels.  click here

6 yrs and above 3:1 This program differs from the AquaQuest program, designed for children 6 years and older. Red Cross Swim Kids does not include any preschool levels. The first level of Red Cross Swim Kids is more challenging and is targeted for children six to seven years old Our research indicates that many children start taking swimming lessons younger than six years of age, which is why we have designed the first Red Cross Swim Kids level to be adequately challenging in order to keep swimmers developing continuously. New swimmers who enter the program after the age of six, without any previous experience in swimming lessons, will be challenged more than they were in AquaQuest Level 1. Our pilots have shown that the progressions are manageable, with effective hands on instruction

Rooke Ranger Star 10-13 yrs   The Life Saving Society RRS Program - is a fantastic way for students to improve their stroke mechanics, physical strength, and both muscular and cardiovascular endurance.  Students participate in a variety of our activities designed by our specially trained coaches.  Students are encouraged to swim on both Sundays and Wednesdays in order to benefit the most from this program.

Fitness and Race Training 10-15 yrs    A unique program adapted from the LifeSaving Fitness program.  Definitely an experience only available at Shendys!

Bronze Star 12 yrs   For children less than 13 years old who have completed all SAFE levels.

Bronze Medallion 13 yrs or Bronze Star   Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross - these two programs now feature unlimited training^.  Students can enrol in either our Sunday or Wednesday programs and are free to train on both days for no extra cost. We feel this will give our future lifesavers a real advantage to completing these advanced certifications.  ^unlimited training is provided only during regularly scheduled Bronze class times, and only for the session that the student has enrolled in.  13 years of age or Bronze Star are required to complete Bronze Medallion.  14 years of age or Bronze Medallion are required to complete Bronze Cross.

Bronze Cross 14 yrs or Bronze Medallion
A.W.S.I. 15 yrs old and Bronze Cross   AWSI- the AWSI course is taught by a certified Instructor Trainer.  It requires 15 hours of assistant instructing that candidates complete on their own time under the supervision of Shendy's Swim School.  15 Years of age and a current Bronze Cross are required.

Instructors 16 yrs AWSI and Bronze Cross   Instructors - Shendy's offers both Red Cross and Life Saving Society Instructors programs in one class.  Complete the course in an intense 4-5 week session that may require some additional training on Wednesday evenings.  This training is provided at no additional cost, and is done only at the recommendation of the instructor trainer.  When you sign up for both Instructors and NLS in the same session you save $55. 16 years of age, AWSI, and a current Bronze Cross are required.

NLS 16 yrs old and Bronze Cross   NLS - Shendy's Swim School offers lifeguard training via the LifeSaving Society's NLS program.  When you sign up for both Instructors and NLS in the same session you save $55.  16 years of age and a Bronze Cross are required.

********Adult Private Lessons - Shendy's Swim School now offers Adult Private Lessons on Wednesday evenings.  These half hour sessions can be catered to your individual needs, and can teach you non-swimmers to swim, or help advanced swimmers improve and learn to use swimming as part of their exercise programs.  Adult first aid classes are also available.
