PAWSI is a program developed to fill a void in the Red Cross and LifeSaving programs for candidates who have completed Bronze Cross and are under the pre-requisite age for Leaders (15 years). It is a fun and interactive series of modules targeted to inspire creativity and foster stroke development. These two fundamental areas that need development prior to AWSI and WSI courses. The emphasis on stroke development is of particular importance given the lack of stroke concentration during the Bronze levels. These modules do not need to be taken in sequence. Candidates are not formally evaluated but are provided with specific constructive feedback. Each teaching activity should be followed by an interactive debriefing session to highlight the effectiveness of the activity relative to the student defined purpose. Observation activities must be completed in entirety and are not handed in, but are debriefed as a collective group in class.
The PAWSI program serves as an excellent development tool for students who wish to continue their aquatic careers and is a great first step in their Leadership Training.
